Catalyst 4840G Description The Catalyst 4840G Server Load Balancing Switch, fixed 40 Fast Ethernet 10/100 ports with two 1000Base-X Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) slots. The Catalyst 4840G performs server load balancing and firewall and multiple firewall load balancing. It runs dispatch and directed mode load balancing with weighted round robin and weighted least connections algorithms. Sticky connections, HTTP redirection, and buddy groups can be configured. Forty servers can be directly connected or up to 1024 servers can be indirectly connected via Fast Ethernet ports. Clients connect through Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet ports. Server availability can be monitored with HTTP probes, Ping probes, or Dynamic Feedback Protocol (DFP). Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Domain Name System (DNS), Hypertext Transfer Protocol-Server (HTTP-S), and other protocols are supported. The Catalyst 4840G provides Layer 3 routing and Layer 2 bridging.
